New Local Bookstore in Town
Summerville has long needed a local bookstore. The activity at Main Street Reads since opening March 1st highly confirms this. The owners, Sheri Stauch and her family, previously used the building as office space. With the downtown area evolving, she decided to turn the space into something that would be “a little more fun for the community.” This is the ideal business for these book lovers.
The store celebrates Summerville and a small town feel. The spirit of Main Street flows indoors with local photos, local authors and even lamp post style floor lamps. They have dedicated a special room to local and regional authors, and another for children. If you love getting lost in a great book, then this is the perfect place. They have some reading nooks in the store or you can park yourself on a bench in our beautiful Hutchinson Square just across the street.
Looking for some new titles? The website offers a list of Staff Picks for a variety of ages and genres, as well as the Official Pulpwood Queen Book Club selections.
Awesome Events
Looking for new experiences in your community? You may want to attend a book signing hosted by Main Street Reads. They’ve hosted almost 20 authors since opening in March to include Benjamin Gamble, Alan Ables, C. Hope Clark, Terri Barnes, Bill Walsh and many more.
They participate in Hutchinson Square events like the Dessert Stroll in April and the Kentucky Derby Hat Party in May. As summer heats up, there will be more events like “Thriller Thursday” held on Third Thursdays. To check out their future events, go to their facebook page.
The current hours of operation are Mon-Fri 1-am to 7pm, Sat 10am to 6pm and Sun 1pm to 6pm.
Variety of People
I love meeting new, interesting people and my time spent at Main Street Reads has never left me disappointed. Aside from all the locals, I met one couple visiting from Arizona that made special plans to attend the Barnes book signing. Terri Barnes and her daughter, Jessie, write about their military experiences and the Arizona couple were retired military. This morning I met Adam Iscoe, a young man from Austin Texas. This aspiring author stopped and picked up a book while biking across the US for five months. He has a grant from the University of California Berkeley to bike while writing the first 60 pages of his book about “the in-between places in America.” Check out his journey so far @iscoe. I look forward to reading his book and wonder if we can get him back for a book signing one day!
